Understanding Skin Tones & Undertones

Since this blog is all about beauty, I would like to start from the very basic which is understanding skin tones and undertones. I myself also had a hard time finding my undertones, finding skin tones was really easy because you can see it with your naked eye. I'm going to make this easy and simple to understand. This post is all about identifying skin tones, understanding undertones, methods of finding undertones and complimenting colors.

Skin Tones & Undertones

It is important to identify your undertones as you may end up buying the wrong foundation for your skin and wrong hair color. Before realizing that I'd wearing a wrong foundation I've noticed that my face were looking dull, muddy or ashy and if you are wearing an inappropriate foundation you may end up looking like mine. The foundation may match your skin tone but it may not match you undertones so this is why it's important to know your undertones.

Not only can undertones determine what foundation matches you but it can also determine what eyeshadows, blushes and lipstick you should wear.

The first thing you might wanna know is that there's a difference between skin tones and undertones. Your skin tone is the color of your skin which can be seen easily with our naked eye and your undertone is the color within you skin tone, it hides under the skin but it can be seen through several methods. A lot of you might think that cool, warm and neutral are skin tones but they are in fact undertones.

Another thing you should know that your skin tones can change, but your undertone never changes. An example of this is tanning, you may tan during summer meaning your skin tone will be tanned or change but of course your undertone will not be tanned.

Shades/Types of Skin Tones:

  • Very Light
  • Light
  • Light-Medium
  • Medium
  • Medium-Dark
  • Dark
  • Very Dark

Shade/Types of Undertones

  • Cool - Pink, Red or Blush Tones
  • Warm - Yellow or Golden Tones
  • Neutral - Both Red & Yellow Tones (or neither)
  • Neutral Cool - Neutral undertone but more oncool tone
  • Neutral Warm - Neutral undertone but more on warm tone

Methods of Identifying Cool, Warm or Neutral Undertones

1. Genetics
One easy way of determining your undertones is by your genetics, because human natural hair color and eye color were complimented with skin undertones. I made a chart for easy understanding.

If you have black, brown or blonde hair and have blue, green or grey eyes, you have a cool undertone.

And if you have black, brown, auburn, blonde, strawberry blonde or red hair with black, brown or hazel eyes, you have a warm undertone.

2. White Shirt/Towel Method
If you have any hesitations or confusions whether you have cool, neutral or warm undertone use another method. I also did a second method in determining my undertone actually I've done all of the methods just to justify or clarify myself that I really have a warm undertone.  Another method will determine if you have a cool, warm or neutral undertone is the white shirt or white towel method.

Get some form of white fabric, whether a white towel, a white t-shirt, a white cloth or white sheet (basically anything that's white), a pony-tailed hair (hair tied), clean face and some effort.

Steps to be followed:
  1. Wash your face make sure it is really clean, no make-up
  2. Tie you hair back
  3. Take some white shirt or any white cloth
  4. Place it around your neck
  5. Stand to a window facing a natural light or just stand in natural day light
  6. Have some mirror
When you notice that your face appears to have a red, pink or beige tones, you fall to cool undertone category. But if your face appears to have a yellow or golden tones, you fall to warm undertone. And if your face appears to have slightly green brown tones, you have a neutral undertone.

3. Vein Method
Another way of determining your undertone is simply looking at your veins. It's a quick and easy method with a little effort needed.

The easiest way to look your veins is  in your arm, hand or under your wrist.
  • If your veins are mostly blue, you have a cool undertone.
  • If your veins are mostly green, you have a warm undertone.
  • If your veins are mix of blue and green (like turquoise/aqua), you have a neutral undertone.

4. Gold vs. Silver
Another simple way of identifying your undertone is the gold vs. silver jewelry method. You may already knew what jewelry suits but you might wanna know is that it is the another method.

Hi,

So this is a very late post huh! :D  Last July 2, it was Iceyah's birthday one of my best friends. We've (me and my other best friend Cybelle and Marj) decided to eat at Zark's Burgers near the school and Ice did not agree with it cause it's mahal daw, heavy meal daw, nagtitipid daw too many excuses, HALLER?! it's your birthday anyway, treat yourself or should I say treat US! if I know kumain na talaga sya kasama si Kent haha. Pero hindi nya na kami mapipigilan. So we've decided na we're the one nalang to treat her.

Super mouthwatering! it was my first time there and I don't know what to order. So the biggest one is mine! hahah takaw!

Ice and I

REVIEW: Real Techniques Limited Edition Duo-Fiber Collection

So, after a long time I finally have the mood to make a review, haha! so lazy right?! Recently, I found out that I have a HUGE obsession on brushes, particularly on Real Techniques Collections by one the Pixiwoo Sisters, who's Samantha Champman. They were popular on YouTube, they do make-up tutorial and reviews also. I always watch their videos. She was so geniuse to came up with this brushes. I don't have brushes as many as other's have but I'm starting to collect a brushes. I have several of the Real Techniques brushes but i'll just start with the "Duo-Fiber Limited Edition Collection".

This review will illustrates whether you need to add this trio to your collections.  Let’s start with what duo-fiber brushes are: in essence, brushes made with two different synthetic fibers to enable light application of product for a natural looking, airbrushed finish.  Their base is of average density, the upper half of the brush fibers are fine, sparse and super soft.

If you imagine dipping a densely packed, firm brush into bronzer, then swiping it on your face, you can imagine how much product will adhere to the brush (lots) and how heavy the application will be (very).  In contrast, the long, sparse hairs of a duo-fiber brush ‘stroke’ the surface of product and apply a gentle whisper of bronzer onto the skin, perfect for women who love the natural look.

The Real Techniques Duo Fiber brushes are extremely soft and gentle. Duo fiber brushes are meant to be soft; their purpose is to achieve a subtle, natural finish.

FUNCTIONS:

Face Brush
  • for setting powder
  • adding a light bronzer
  • finishing the face
  • blending out products
  • soften any harsh lines
Contour Brush
  • light face contouring
  • applying highly pigmented blushes
  • adding highlighter

Eye Brush
  • blending out eye shadow
  • perfect for harsh lines

Availability: I got this online from Stuff in Style, it's Php. 1,350 inclusive of shipping fee. They sell many cosmetic products, original? of course it is, I bought several times and no hassle also in terms of good transaction with them, they will give you 3 days to settle out your payment. They used to have a Multiply account but yeah, multiply is gone now so they sell through Facebook. (click here) They have the whole line of Real Techniques Collection.

Thank you. :)

It's more FUN in the PHILIPPINES: Surigao City Edition

Hello Bloggers!

So, this my very first formal post. Last vacation, summer 2013 month of April, we went to our closest places in our heart, which is Surigao City in Mindanao Philippines. Other people would normally go to Bocaray, which we cannot deny that it belongs to "PlacesYouShouldn'tMissBeforeYouDie" haha, but for me Boacay broke it shell from being innocent world going to a crazy world, meaning to  congested world. For me beaches are on the relaxation haven, but beaches filled with noisy people, irritating sound and drunk people it's not a place for relaxation anymore you should have stayed in Manila, right? (no offense :D). So why closest place in our hearts? because it's my parents' home town, but my sister and I born in Manila. Every time we go there, it feels like you never wanted to go back to a congested Manila where you supposedly stuck with.

Taken randomly. #boat #smile #coconut #market
Surigao City is a very beautiful place, it has many hidden God's work which you can be proud of as Filipino. Wonderful people, white beaches, historical places, hidden natures, food, the culture these are just the few thing you must know for not having any hesitation to go there.

at Lantsa(boat) going to Bucas Grande
Going to Bucas Grande Island was a very exciting experience for all of us. From Surigao City you're going to ride a tricycle going to the port of lantsa or boat. It's a more than 2 hours ride full of beautiful scenery. When we arrived at Bucas Grande, medium sized boat were picked us up to the registration area where pay an entrance fee and sign a waiver, from there we ride an individual sized boat going to the jellyfish area. These jellyfish were special species coz when you hold it doesn't make you feel itchy, and these species will only be found in the Philippines.

Bucas Grande
Story behind Bucas Grande Island:

"Bucas Grande Island has been laced by Mother Nature with relatively peaceful shorelines. The island has been known for its magnificent white beaches and for its carefree people. Being an island municipality, traveling by sea has never turned out as an option for its people but a way of living for them. Bucas Grande Island is a place which is an epitome of what a melting pot is. Its inhabitants are mostly coming from Leyte, Tago, Cantilan, Mainit, General Luna and other places of Visayas and Mindanao. Today, the melting pot character has been strengthened by the hundreds of local and foreign tourists which are flocking the place each year." (for the full story click here)

Bugas Grande
Meanwhile, after the Bucas Grande Adventure, we jumped to another island, the Sagisi Island. Perfect sunlight, blue water and white sand. It's far from Bucas Grande Island but near from the city.

Sagisi Beach
Enjoying the moment and experience.

Sagisi Beach

Would probably go back and fell in love all over again.
Thank you. :)
